BIKE REPAIR STATIONS

Our six bike repair stations are color-coded as green and purple on the bike view of the interactive campus map. They include all the tools necessary to perform basic bike repairs and maintenance, from changing a flat to adjusting brakes and derailleurs. If you need additional assistance, bike mechanics are available at the RecWell Bike Shop for free bike maintenance.

AIR PUMPS AROUND CAMPUS

If it’s only air that you need, you have options:

It is important to pump up your tires frequently because over time they lose air pressure. A properly inflated tire prevents flats and reduces friction making pedaling easier.  Learn how to properly use a bike pump.

LONG-TERM STORAGE AND COVERED BIKE PARKING

LONG TERM BIKE STORAGE

Bikes may not be stored on outdoor racks over breaks. Bike storage is available for those who wish to leave their bikes on campus during breaks. If you're interested in storing your bike on campus, please fill out this form. You can use one of the drop-off locations listed on the form, or simply bring your bike to the DOTS lobby, inside Regents Garage. Please note the DOTS Lobby is closed on weekends for in-person drop-offs and all pick-ups. Your bike will be stored in a secure bike lot, safe and out of the weather while you are away. When you are ready to pick up your bike, you’ll notify us of your preferred day and time via form and we’ll have it waiting for you in the DOTS Lobby. If you have questions, please email bike@umd.edu.
There is a $10 per month (or part thereof) storage fee, which is payable when you pick up your bike after the storage period. You may also apply the charge to your student account.

Additionally, there are indoor bike rooms located in Oakland and Prince Frederick halls for students who live in those residence halls.
Covered bike parking locations can be found on the Interactive Campus Web Map.

BICYCLE COMMUTER INCENTIVES

The Bike Commuter Incentive program provides free access to a secure bike pen and shower facilities inside Regents Drive Garage for those who bike to work.

The Rainy-Day Bicycle Rewards program gives bicycle commuters a free, single-use daily parking permit for every 10 one-way bike commutes they log. The permit can be used on days when it's too rainy to bike to work or any other time.

DISCOUNTED SAFETY EQUIPMENT SALES

BikeUMD offers quality bike safety gear at 25 – 50% off retail prices. Helmets, U-locks and bike light sets can be purchased at the DOTS office during business hours. These items can also be purchased at the RecWell Bike Shop. Cash or credit card are accepted. Returns are only accepted the same day of purchase and must be in the original packaging.

DONATE A BIKE TO BICYCLE RECYCLE

Students, staff and faculty who no longer want their bicycles are encouraged to remove them from campus property by donating it to the DOTS Bicycle Recycle program. Your bike will be refurbished by RecWell bike mechanics and sold to other Terps at a discount. Here's how you can donate. DOTS also works with a number of local non-profit organizations that will accept non-refurbishable bikes as donations.
