WAS YOUR VEHICLE RELOCATED BEFORE A BASKETBALL GAME?

Here's where and how to retrieve it.

WHEN WE TOW

Any motor vehicle parked in violation of towable offenses in the UMD parking regulations or that is in a state of disrepair or abandoned on campus is subject to removal and impoundment at the expense of the owner or operator.

WAS MY VEHICLE TOWED OR RELOCATED?

If you would like to verify that your vehicle was towed or relocated by DOTS, you may contact us during our business hours at 301-314-3687 (4-DOTS) or the Department of Public Safety at 301-405-3555 at all other times.

THE FOLLOWING CONDITIONS ARE TOWABLE OFFENSES:
  • Vehicles associated with any individual who has received five or more outstanding parking violations that are more than 15 days old. 
  • Vehicles associated with any individual who has received more than 12 citations during a consecutive 12-month period may be impounded regardless of the payment status of those citations. The vehicle will be eligible for impoundment each time a new citation is issued. 
  • Vehicles that are not moved after 90 days. 
  • Vehicles parked illegally in roadways, fire lanes, disabled/transfer areas, areas marked as tow-away zones, and other public safety areas as designated in the parking regulations.
  • Vehicles displaying lost, stolen or altered DOTS permits/CLPR and/or State-issued disabled permits. These permits may be confiscated by university officials and the holder may be referred to the Office of Student Conduct for judicial proceedings.

DOTS reserves the right to relocate or impound vehicles as required for emergencies, construction or maintenance, access needs, event parking, at the discretion of the Department of Public Safety, upon request of the vehicle owner, or at their discretion for any other reasons such as blocking in another vehicle or being in a state of disrepair.

CLAIMING A TOWED CAR, SCOOTER OR MOTORCYCLE

In order to claim a towed car, scooter or motorcycle, please take the following steps: 

1. Visit the DOTS office in Regents Drive Garage between 8:15 a.m. and 4:00 p.m., or the Department of Public Safety (DPS) in the Pocomoke Building at any time.

2. Pay all outstanding bills or fines.

3. Pay all applicable storage fees. The storage fee begins the second calendar day after the vehicle was towed.
