BIKE REPAIR STATIONS
Our six bike repair stations are color-coded as green and purple on the bike view of the interactive campus map. They include all the tools necessary to perform basic bike repairs and maintenance, from changing a flat to adjusting brakes and derailleurs. If you need additional assistance, bike mechanics are available at the RecWell Bike Shop for free bike maintenance.
AIR PUMPS AROUND CAMPUS
If it’s only air that you need, you have options:
- Bike repair station at A.V. Williams (available 24/7)
- Between Iribe Center and CSIC Bldg (available 24/7)
- McKeldin Library (UID required)
- DOTS office in Regents Drive Garage during business hours
- Maryland Adventure Program rental desk
- RecWell Bike Shop
It is important to pump up your tires frequently because over time they lose air pressure. A properly inflated tire prevents flats and reduces friction making pedaling easier. Learn how to properly use a bike pump.
LONG-TERM STORAGE AND COVERED BIKE/SCOOTER PARKING
LONG TERM BIKE/SCOOTER STORAGE
Bikes and scooters may not be stored on outdoor racks over breaks. Storage is available for those who wish to leave their bikes/scooters on campus during breaks. REQUEST BY NON-OWNER
In the event that another lock has been placed on your bicycle or e-scooter, by mistake or on purpose, please email bike@umd.edu with photos of locked vehicles and a description of the location. If the vehicle is registered, BikeUMD staff will attempt to contact the owner. If the owner can not be contacted, the lock and any other vehicles secured with that lock will be subject to DOTS policy on improperly locked micromobility vehicles.
If the bicycle/e-scooter is located off campus, on public property, or other private property, the requester should contact the Prince George’s County Police Department’s non-emergency line (301-351-1200) to establish a record of ownership and have it removed. BikeUMD does not have authorization to cut a lock that is on a rack that is not on UMD property.
BICYCLE COMMUTER INCENTIVES
The Bike Commuter Incentive program provides free access to a secure bike pen, lockers, and shower facilities inside Regents Drive Garage for those who bike to work.
The Rainy-Day Bicycle Rewards program gives bicycle commuters a free, single-use daily parking permit for every 10 one-way bike commutes they log. The permit can be used on days when it's too rainy to bike to work or any other time.
Locker rentals are available in the Bicycle Commuter pen for $20/semester. Rentals are available on a semesterly basis, and lockers are rented through a lottery process that opens prior to the start of each semester. Registered BCIP participants will receive an email 2-3 weeks before the start of each semester with details on how to enter the locker lottery.

RECYCLE YOUR E-SCOOTER OR E-BIKE
If your e-scooter or e-bike is no longer in working condition, DOTS can recycle it for you for free! The Lithium-ion batteries inside of e-micromobility vehicles must be recycled in a specific manner as they can cause fires and other damage when disposed of incorrectly. Please do not dispose of your e-bike or e-scooter in dumpsters or curbside garbage/recycling bins. To start this process, please fill out this form and drop your vehicle off at the designated racks outside of the DOTS office.
Important Safety Notice: Damaged or Leaking Lithium-Ion Batteries
If your battery is damaged, swollen, leaking, or shows any signs of physical distress, do not drop it off at the recycling location. Instead, immediately contact 911. Damaged batteries can pose serious safety risks, including fire or toxic leaks, and must be handled with extreme caution.
Please ensure that only vehicles with safe, undamaged batteries are dropped off for recycling. Thank you for helping us keep the community safe!
