Warmer weather and sunny days are the perfect ingredients for a week full of biking! Join us for our annual Bike Week celebration, where we will explore local trails, learn new skills and connect with other Terps–all by bike!
Bike Week is an annual event hosted by the Department of Transportation Services (DOTS) and University Recreation and Wellness (RecWell) that highlights cycling programs on and around campus, builds community among university cyclists and encourages biking as a means of commuting sustainably.
MOUNTAIN BIKE IN ROSARYVILLE STATE PARK
Sunday, April 5, 9:00 AM–5:00 PM | Meet at RecWell Adventure Program Office
Sign-up Required | Cost: $40
Kick off UMD Bike Week with this beginner-friendly 10-mile loop around the woods of Rosaryville State Park in Upper Malboro, MD. You’ll learn to tackle roots, rocks and stream crossings on your bike. No previous mountain biking experience required, but participants should be comfortable on a bike. Registration is open to current students only. Attendance at the pre-trip meeting on 3/31 is required. Bikes and helmets are provided.

Come get tacos with us at Tacos a la Madre in College Park and explore the local Trolley Trail. Need a bike? RecWell rents bicycles for $10 a day. Need a helmet? Let us know when you RSVP and one will be provided for you! The first 15 people to sign up will get a free taco on us!

Pedal your way to a free fruit smoothie on the DOTS Smoothie Bike, learn how to fix a flat and try balancing groceries by bike! Join DOTS and the RecWell Bike Shop at the UMD Farmers Market to explore how the same kinetic energy that powers the DOTS Smoothie Bike powers lights, sound, ice cream and electricity at schools around the country!

BIKEYO AT LAKE ARTEMESIA

Like the outdoors? Then this class is for you! Breathe the fresh air and get a fun workout at the same time. Take a short bike ride down the scenic Anacostia Tributary Trail to Lake Artemesia for a beautiful sunset. There, we’ll be led through a relaxing yoga session in a gazebo above the lake. The amazing sights will open your eyes to all this campus community has to offer while giving your body an effective cycling workout. Need a bike? RecWell rents bicycles for $10 a day. Need a helmet? CHERRY BLOSSOM CHASE: DC BIKE PARTY!

Take a slow roll to explore the cherry blossoms of Washington, DC with the monthly DC Bike Party gathering! Bring your favorite tunes and wear your cherry blossom finest: reds, whites, pinks, flowers and lights–the sky’s the limit! Hop off the ride anytime. Need a bike? Plan ahead for your ride home with the Transit app, with real-time Shuttle-UM arrivals.

COFFEE AND CLEAN-UP

Sign-up Required | Cost: Purchase from café is optional
Join us for a beginner-friendly bike ride! Departing from the DOTS Lawn, we’ll take a leisurely ride down the Paint Branch Trail to Call Your Mother cafe in Riverdale Park. Grab coffee or food, then join us at a nearby park to clean up litter and debris. Trash pickup tools will be provided. Need a bike? RecWell rents bicycles for $10 a day. Need a helmet? Let us know when you RSVP and one will be provided for you! We’ll bike the same route back to campus on this fun networking and volunteer opportunity. All are welcome! Come out and ride!
