The campus community can expect to see renovations on Union Lane Garage and Terrapin Trail Garage this summer. Union Lane Garage has been under renovation since summer 2018 and is partially open for visitors at present. It will close for its final phase of renovations on Thursday, June 6. Terrapin Trail Garage will close for renovations on June 14. Both garages are expected to open for the start of the 2019-2020 academic year.
The Department of Transportation Service (DOTS) will accommodate motorists with alternate parking options while renovations are underway. Stadium Drive Garage and Regents Drive Garage are the closest options for those seeking visitor parking near Union Lane Garage. Electric vehicle parking and ADA parking on the top floor of Union Lane Garage will still be accessible during the closure. Individuals with active parking permits during the Terrapin Trail Garage renovations will be able to park in Lots 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 9, 11, and 16, with Lot 4b as the closest alternative to the garage.
Renovations are critical for maintaining the structural integrity of campus garages. The outcomes of the Union Lane Garage and Terrapin Trail Garage renovations include drainage system improvements that will prevent flooding, and repairs to worn structural items. DOTS maintains a regular garage assessment and renovations schedule based on recommendations from the university’s Facilities Management section, as well as structural engineers specializing in parking garages who have been contracted by the university.
