DONATE YOUR VEHICLE TO BICYCLE RECYCLE

Students, staff and faculty who no longer want their bikes, e-scooters and e-bikes are encouraged to remove them from campus property by donating them to the DOTS Bicycle Recycle program. Through Bicycle Recycle, some non-electric bicycles will be refurbished by RecWell bike mechanics and sold to Terps at a discount at select events. DOTS also works with several local non-profit organizations that accept non-refurbished bikes as donations.

RECYCLE YOUR E-BIKE OR E-SCOOTER

While DOTS cannot refurbish electric micromobility vehicles at this time, we can ensure they are recycled responsibly at no cost to the owner. The lithium-ion batteries inside e-micromobility vehicles must be recycled in a specific manner to reduce fire risk, damage, and environmental harms.. Please do not dispose of any electric micromobility vehicle  in dumpsters or curbside garbage and recycling bins.

HOW TO DONATE OR RECYCLE
  1. Fill out our Donation Release Form
  2. Drop off your micromobility vehicles at one of our striped donation racks outside the DOTS office.
WHY DONATE?

Did you know that DOTS identifies and removes as many as 200 abandoned micromobility vehicles from the UMD campus each year?

DOTS retains abandoned bikes, e-bikes, and e-scooters/ for a year before DOTS donates them to community partners or refurbishes them for sale to UMD students at discounted rates. However, after a year in storage, many of these vehicles deteriorate to the point of being unusable and ultimately end up in a landfill.

When you donate your bike, you reduce environmental waste and biking  accessible to other Terps.
