Bike Resources

new: bikeumd concierge

BikeUMD is piloting a new Bicycle Concierge Program to help any and all levels of Terp cyclists. Through this program we hope to inspire more of the UMD community to use bikes for transportation, fitness and fun—all of which contributes to the university’s sustainability goals.

Our Bike Concierge is here to answer any questions or concerns you have that keep you from riding regularly through one-on-one bike counseling sessions.

Our new program offers:

  • One-on-one counseling sessions
  • Personal trip planning for commutes to campus and recreational rides
  • A partner to join you for your first commute ride to campus
  • Tips for riding in traffic alongside cars
  • Advice about bike parking, commuting accessories and more

Let us assist you in developing a custom tailored plan to help you achieve your cycling goals! To get started, fill out our Google form and we’ll contact you through email or text to set up your one-on-one session.

We look forward to serving you.

Long Term Bike Storage

and stop by the cashier’s desk in the Regents Drive Garage lobby to pay in advance. You will leave your bike at Regents Garage. Upon payment one of our staff will move your bike inside to a secure bike lot where your bike will be safe and out of the weather while you are away.

Covered Bike Parking

There are a number of conveniently located covered bike parking locations across campus that provide secure parking that keeps your bike protected from the elements. Additionally, there are indoor bike rooms located in Oakland and Prince Frederick halls for students who live in those residence halls.

Covered bike parking locations can be found on the Interactive Campus Web Map.

Our six bike repair stations are color-coded as green and purple on the bike view of the interactive campus map. They include all the tools necessary to perform basic bike repairs and maintenance, from changing a flat to adjusting brakes and derailleurs.

AIR Pumps Around Campus

If it’s only air that you need, you have options:

It is important to pump up your tires frequently because over time they lose air pressure. A properly inflated tire prevents flats and reduces friction making pedaling easier.  Learn how to properly use a bike pump.

We provide secure bike parking and shower facilities as an incentive for commuters who choose to travel to campus via bicycle. The Bike Commuter Incentive program is intended to facilitate controlled access to these facilities for participants enrolled in our sustainable transportation program, Smart Commute.

*The shower facilities in Regents Drive Garage will re-open for the Fall 2021 semester. In the meantime, the RecWell shower facilities at Ritchie and Cole are available to you.*

BikeUMD offers quality bike safety gear at 25 – 50% off retail prices. Helmets, U-locks and bike light sets can be purchased at the DOTS office during business hours. These items can also be purchased at the RecWell Bike Shop. Cash or credit card are accepted. Returns are only accepted the same day of purchase and must be in the original packaging.
