Many of our student employees go on to work full-time for us after graduation. This year alone we hired a student employee full-time into our IT department and our Shuttle Management department.

Student Drivers (continuously hiring)

Job Type/Requirements: $13.00/hr; Part time; Undergraduate Students only

DOTS Shuttle-UM drivers provide safe, dependable, on-time transportation to University of Maryland students, faculty, and staff. The position involves paid training, flexible hours, and advancement opportunities. Drivers earn $10.10/hr during training, which increases to $13.00/hr after completion of training and CDL licensing.

Student Program Assistant

Job Type/Requirements: $10.25/hr; Part time; Undergraduate Students only

This position will assist the Training Coordinator in planning and managing employee programs and events for the Department of Transportation Services. This position requires an outgoing individual that will brainstorm activities and ideas for collaborative efforts throughout the department. Additionally, this position will work on diversity awareness for staff such as, facilitating small group conversations, creating a monthly diversity board, researching diversity related articles, and planning diversity field trips.

Student Human Resource Assistant

The team of Human Resource Assistants works with the Human Resources Office in facilitating the hiring process for full-time and student employees for DOTS, as well as promoting a fun, supportive and professional work environment. The position requires approximately 10-15 hours a week with $10.25/hr compensation.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Scheduling interviews and assisting with the overall hiring process.
  • Providing payroll-related information to, and processing payroll documents for, new staff.
  • Planning and participating in recruitment events.
  • Working collaboratively with management and staff to facilitate positive relationships.

This student should:

  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Be team oriented, flexible and able to effectively adapt to change.
  • Have strong interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Be detail oriented and have exceptional time management skills.

Student Marketing Assistant
Job Type/Requirements: $10.25 per hour; Part time; Undergraduate Students only

The Department of Transportation Services (DOTS) has an opening in its Marketing and Design department for an experienced Student Marketing Assistant. This position plays an active role in engaging the campus community and promoting the UMD DOTS core messages and services. The target audience is primarily students, but also includes faculty, staff and campus visitors.

Under the direction of the Marketing Coordinator, the Marketing Assistant assists in the implementation of strategy to effectively market and promote new and existing products and services. The Marketing Assistant will represent the department at University-sponsored events and assist with the Shuttle-UM advertising program. Under the direction of the Marketing Coordinator, the Marketing Assistant will strive to broaden the reach of the DOTS community and encourage positive interaction between DOTS and the University of Maryland Community.

This position requires a weekly commitment of 10–15 hours to be worked during standard office hours (9:00 – 5:00). This position requires weekend work (Saturdays) twice a month, plus occasional events held on weekends or evenings. This position requires work during the summer.

Student Special Events

Job Type/Requirements: $12.00 shift differential; Part time; Undergraduate Students only

The Student Special Events position is a very hands-on job that is perfect for outgoing and friendly students who want a position that offers more than just working behind a desk. This position requires a minimum of 10 regularly scheduled hours per week during the semester (Monday-Friday between the hours of 7 a.m. – 10:30 p.m.). Available to work on call some evenings and weekends totaling approximately 10 hours per week. Limited Winter/Summer term hours available as needed. Must work all MD home football games and half of all men’s home basketball games.

Student Training Advisor

Job Type/Requirements: $10.25/hr; Part time; Undergraduate Students only

The Department of Transportation Services (DOTS) is looking for enthusiastic individuals with excellent public speaking, written communication, and presentation skills to fill the position of Training Advisor.  The Training Advisor reports to the Training Coordinator in facilitating training programs for new employees and assisting in the coordination of learning experiences for students and full-time staff. In addition to these tasks, the candidate will also be responsible for assisting with internal programming for diversity events and professional development.
