The Department of Transportation Services has partnered with Zipcar to offer students, faculty, and staff the benefits of a car-sharing service.  If you join, you can have access to cars on campus and nearly 700 cars parked all over the DC metro area.  Members can drive Zipcars by the hour or by the day.  No need to worry about gas, insurance or maintenance.  Just reserve online, let yourself in with your Zipcard, and drive away.  Even students, 18-20, have the opportunity to join.  Eligible faculty and staff members can take advantage of a special faculty/staff promotion

FACULTY/STAFF PREMEIRE PROGRAM

If you qualify for this program, you will be granted six free hours of driving per month.  This free driving can be used at any time during the month.  At the end of each month (30 day period), the leftover credit is voided and new credit is applied.  There will be no rollover of the credit on this plan.

As a member in the Premiere Program, you will see your account credited monthly with an amount that works out to six monthly hours including tax for those hours billed as listed in Rate 1. Please see the posted schedule below. You will get the full value of the six hours if the vehicle is used during the Monday-Friday window as it will be billed to your account at Rate 1. If you use it outside these hours, your account will be billed at the higher Rate 2, and thus you will not get the full six hours. You would be personally responsible for any time including taxes billed beyond these six hours. Please note: All driving using the free hours in this program should be for personal use only. Please contact the Department of Business Services for use of vehicles for business-related reasons.

Rate 1:
Monday - Friday
$7.25/hr at any hour
$42 for a business day (7AM - 7PM)
$52 for a 24-hr period

Rate 2:
Monday - Sunday
$9, $11, or $13/hr depending on the vehicle
$65, $77, or $95 for a 24-hour period depending on the vehicle

You are eligible to drive free under the UMD Faculty and Staff Premiere program if:

• You are an approved Zipcar member.

• You DO NOT own or possess a University of Maryland, College Park parking permit
(excluding carpool parking permits).

• Your participation in this program has been approved by DOTS.

  FACULTY/STAFF STANDARD PROGRAM
Any member of the faculty or staff can sign up for the standard program, which offers a discounted annual membership of only $25/year.  If you are a member of the University of Maryland faculty or staff and you are not eligible for the premiere plan, this is the program for you.  Go to www.zipcar.com/umd and click on the appropriate link to direct you to the proper member application. 

STUDENT PROGRAM
Any member of the University of Maryland student body over the age of 18 is eligible for this program.  A registration fee of $25 or $35 applies depending on your age bracket.  Students will then be charged the standard rates starting at $9/hour or $65/day.  Go to www.zipcar.com/umd and click on the appropriate link to direct you to the proper member application
