Security and safety awareness!
   Educate yourself on Bicycle Security

  • Make sure you lock your bike at designated bike racks

  • Be alert of your surroundings at all times while riding your bike

  • Remember to always look both ways when pulling into traffic and at intersections

  • Remember to share the roads and obey stop signs. Follow biking regulations and stay off sidewalks

The first thing you can do to protect your bike against theft is to buy a quality lock.  We strongly recommend a quality U-lock. Majority of stolen bikes on campus either don’t use a U-lock or are improperly locked. We recommend first, locking your frame and your front tire to the bike rack using the U-lock.  Then, use the secondary cable to connect your back tire to the frame and if possible to the rack itself. Registering your bike is also strongly recommended. Bike registration aids authorities in locating the owner of a stolen bike. If your bike is lost or stolen, call the Department of Public Safety immediately at (301) 405-3555 or visit the site here.
